If a player selects Squirt A tryout and does not make an A team they will automatically be enrolled in the Squirt B tryout. For those not wishing to tryout they will select No Tryout. The player will automatically be placed on a roster at the same level they played the previous season or if the player played supermites last year they will be placed on a Squirt C roster.

If I played Squirt “A/AA” last season, do I need to tryout again for Squirt “A” this season?

Yes. Plus there is no guarantee that your child will play at a higher level of “A” hockey. Some years we have had a few Squirt “B” players bump ahead of some Squirt “A” players from the previous year.

If I played Rochester Squirt “B” last season do I have to tryout again this season if I want to play Squirt “B” again?

No, those players who played Rochester Squirt “B” last season and want to play Squirt “B” again this season do not have to skate Squirt “B” Tryouts.  Register as "No Tryout" and they will be contacted by their Squirt “B” Coach once tryouts are over, with their team placement.

If I played Squirt “C” last season, what are my options?

You can stay at Squirt “C” again this season (register as "No Tryout"); you can tryout at Squirt “B” or you can tryout at Squirt “A”.

Can players from SD Groups 3, 4 and 5 skate in the Squirt “A” Tryout?

Yes, although use good judgment here. If you are unsure, we suggest that you talk to your child’s Squirt Development Coach to get their opinion. We DO NOT recommend  letting them try it (skate the tryout) for the experience. We do recommend trying out if you feel your child’s ability is close to the ability of the tryout group. Being out of place in a tryout setting is not a “fun” thing for a kid to have to handle. Try to use your best judgment when assessing what level, if any, your child is going to try out for.

Squirt Development

  • Squirt Development practices will start the first week of October
  • Squirt Development is an opportunity for squirt aged kids to start skating prior to the start of the season
  • Squirt Development groups are generally formed based on where players played the previous hockey season. They are not affiliated with tryouts and have no correlation to what team players end up on after tryouts
  • The purpose of Squirt Development is to get the kids ready for the hockey season, prior to tryouts, through skill development and small area games
  • You will be contacted by your assigned development coach after RYHA registration is closed. Your coach will provide dates, times, and locations for the practices when they contact you
