Flyers vs Penguins Hard Hat Winners

The Flyers mixed it up in a short scrimmage this evening, with their cross-state rivals, the Penguins. The first years worked on attacking the puck carrier and had to bring high energy to a short bench. The energy coming from the group was enough to earn an unusual two hard hats. Reed Blood, who has brought a positive attitude and a hard hat work ethic to every game finally went home with some new headwear for his efforts. In net, Jameson Eidem snagged his second HH recognition this season with a steady performance between the pipes and his usual quiet intensity.

The uppers were challenged to connect with each team member with a pass each shift and it created some early spacing troubles and heavy feet. They also ran into friend and former Flyer Mason Waters who kept them busy on defense. The teamwork and effort improved at the end, particularly on defense and backchecking, with #2 setting the defensive pace.

There were some great things to take away from both teams. Go Flyers!

Flyers vs Blackhawks Hard Hat Winners

A new week and a new rivalry is born. The Flyers shared three ice slots with the Blackhawks this weekend, with the third serving as the first game between the two. The first years put forth a gritty effort and a speedy performance on the ice, and played a tight game against the red shirts from the Windy City.

But the other end of the ice told a different story. The second years were shell shocked by Robb “El Presidente” Weidrich’s run and gun game plan. Some games you win, and some games you learn...if that’s true, the second years enjoyed a free lesson tonight.

The Hats this week went to the tendies who split duties in the game. Aidan Burman has been a utility guy all season, playing whatever role he’s been asked with a great attitude and hard work. Tonight was no exception. And, Owen Cousin found his groove between the pipes again and had all the appendages working overtime. Carrot cake for dessert.

We’ll get back at it this week and the weather looks like the outdoor rinks will be perfect. Go Flyers, great game Hawks!

All-Star Hard Hat Award

The Flyers enjoyed the first-class treatment during the annual all-star game with locker name plates, jerseys, DJ’d music, an announcer, and the Star Spangled Banner. But once the puck dropped, so did the niceties and the Flyers learned that the Sharks reputation as a fast-skating, hard-working team is definitely earned. It’s got all the makings of a great 2018 Supermite rivalry.

After a great hour of skating by both teams, it was time to talk Hard Hat. For the first years, you could have found Madilynn’s picture in the dictionary under “determination” tonight. She was first in line every shift and was ready to battle for every loose puck. And Logan’s recently-opened backyard rink is clearly paying off for the second years. He was a buzz saw all over the ice tonight attacking the net, fighting for loose pucks, and backchecking hard.

Despite coming up short on the scoresheet (only by Coach Andy’s math), it was the best effort of the season for the Flyers, with plenty of reason to smile as we head into the second half of the season. All star effort team, enjoy those fancy cookies.
